What’s Your Story? Chapter 2: Stories of the Heart
What’s Your Story?
Chapter 2: Stories of the Heart
After an incredibly successful inaugural “What’s Your Story?” event in December, we are back with a whole new theme on January 28!!
What’s a storytelling event?
Come join us for an intimate night of listening to stories at the Horsethief Pub in Radium. At our storytelling event you’ll hear several pre-selected people each share a 5-minute true story, told live, on stage, without notes. While all the stories for the night will follow the theme, the content and feel of each story is the creation of the individual storyteller. The stories shared can be anything from funny to touching (and everything in between), but each story will be personal and important to the storyteller.
“What’s Your Story?” is an independent event, but takes inspiration from countless storytelling groups around the world. If you want to hear some of the most popular international groups, there are several examples available to listen to for free. We recommend you click on any of these links to hear some of our favourites: The Moth (podcast), The Moth (YouTube), Snap Judgement, Risk!, and Love + Radio.
Join the Audience
Locals, friends, family, tourists, and strangers: everyone is welcome to come listen to the stories! Hear the stories on Tuesday January 28 from 7:30-9:00 p.m.. We ask that if you’re coming to be a member of the audience that you give your full attention to the storytellers and respect the effort they have put in to their story by listening intently. The audience should buy a ticket in advance as seating is limited.
Tickets can be purchased here:
Become a Storyteller
To become a storyteller you must attend a Find Your Story workshop one week before the main event. It’s free!! To register for the January 21 WORKSHOP, click here.
Storyteller WORKSHOP
At the workshop the storytelling host, Maria Kliavkoff, will give storytellers an understanding of how the performance night will go, and will help take your story from an idea to a stage-ready five minute story that will captivate the audience.
Everyone is welcome to come become a storyteller, but you must attend a workshop to participate.
The Host: Maria Kliavkoff
Maria has lived in Radium Hot Springs for several years and has been involved in the community from the day she arrived. Currently Maria owns and runs the facilitation company MK Facilitations, and also has an extensive background in theatre. Maria will be leading the storytelling workshop on November 26 where participants will learn the key elements of effective storytelling and how to deliver the key elements of their story in a succinct and impactful way. Maria will run the Find Your Story workshop, and be back to host and emcee the “What’s Your Story?” main event.
